Infographics through Adobe

Infographics using Adobe

As a teacher in a school district that requires us to use the Google platform, I only thought of using Adobe for opening PDF files.  However, after reading for this blog, I found that I can also use the Adobe platform to have students' complete assignments using Adobe. Adobe Creative Cloud is the overall platform that encompasses all of the Adobe products. "These results are driven, in part, by the increased engagement students feel due to the creativity that Adobe products foster." (Huls, 2022, para. 4) Some of the apps under the Adobe Creative Cloud Platform are:

  • Photoshop - At some point in a student's education, they will have used photoshop. Normally, it is to edit pictures for their Social Media and not necessarily for a school project as such.

  • InDesign - This program would be great for a school newspaper or for a teacher who wanted to create a poetry booklet from her class.

  • Illustrator - This program may not necessarily be used in the classroom but could be great for coaches to create designs to put on t-shirts for their athletes or the PTO as a fundraiser.

  • Premiere Pro - This program would be great for a broadcast class or possibly a digital yearbook.

According to Lawrence (2022, pg. 109), "The power of Adobe software essentially lies in one key idea: it allows layers of media to be stacked on top of one another, and it allows the independent editing of each layer."

  1. I am similar to you in that I teach in a Google district. I love learning about new ways we can allow our students to be creative using technology. Researcher Li et al. (2022) concluded after research that “integrating emerging technologies in the learning process seems to affect creativity positively, and each kind has its way of promoting creativity” (para. 5 conclusion). I am interested in using Adobe Premiere Pro in the classroom to create educational videos and allow my students to be creative. Lawrence (2022) states, “videos are incredibly persuasive” (p.112). The creation of videos on Adobe would be an excellent way to engage our students and spark creativity.

  2. I also teach in a Google district and have enjoyed becoming more proficient in the different software that the Google Suite has to offer. I have been able to use Adove Express with my students to create their own videos, make Infographics, and even use the text to image function to bring their original Greek, mythological creatures to life. "The power of Adobe software essentially lies in one key idea: it allows layers of media to be stacked on top of one another, and it allows the independent editing of each layer" (Lawrence, 2022, p. 109). Adobe Express has so many cool applications, but it does take time to learn them. "To become effective in teaching with technology, teacher candidates need
opportunities to practice learning and teaching with technology, to build their technology self-efficacy, and to develop an understanding of the affordances of technology" (Sprague, Zumpano, Richardson, Williamson, & Gray, 2023, p. 200).

  3. Peggy,

My district also does everything strictly through Google, which I have found to really enjoy.. however, after reading your post, I appreciate your insight into how Adobe tools can enhance student engagement and creativity beyond just opening PDF files. Your breakdown of various Adobe applications and their potential uses in education is particularly helpful. It's interesting to consider how these tools could be integrated across different subjects and extracurricular activities. I was especially struck by the quote from Lawrence (2022) that you included: "The power of Adobe software essentially lies in one key idea: it allows layers of media to be stacked on top of one another, and it allows the independent editing of each layer" (p. 109). This layering capability is indeed a powerful feature that can foster students' both creativity and technical skills.
In addition, as discussed by Lawrence (2022), by using these sophisticated tools, students can learn to effectively communicate ideas through a combination of visual and textual elements.

Overall, your post has opened my eyes, reminding me that as educators, we should continually explore new tools that can enhance our students' learning experiences and prepare them for a digitally-driven future. Thank you for sharing these insights!
